SIT40107 Certificate IV in Tourism (Guiding)

This is our highest rated certification that requires previous work experience and learning modules. Guides who attain this rating will be amongst the best trained in the country.

Our course involves core units of learning combined with elective modules - aimed at expanding an existing knowledge base. Course 4 is a combination of classroom, internet and bush camp learning modules -taking 6-7 months to complete.

Tasmania Course Timeline:

July 1, 2011- Distance learning modules begin. Workbooks and CD Rom will be sent to all students.
July to November 2011- Live ’online’ classroom sessions.
September 2011- Work placement (all students are required to spend 1 to 2 days with a tourism operation for learning and research purposes)
December 4 to 14, 2011- 10 day practical training at Strahan, Tasmania
December/January- Work placement 2
February 28, 2012- Assessments finalised




Trainee requirements for course
 

1. Reliable internet access
2. Email account
3. Download Java version 6 (to use Elluminate)
4. Headset with microphone
5. Register into Wikispace or Wiggio

Theory Component
1. Trainees to commence working through the Workbooks + CD ROM
2. Scheduled Elluminate sessions (a online classroom) to provide an opportunity to collaborate with Trainer and other trainees
3. Wiki forum/blog reflection exercises (individual/team work) 





Practical Component:
1. December 4 to 14
2. 10 nights staying in Federal Group accommodation – Strahan Village.

3. Intensive field training
4. Industry experts (Flora, Fauna, Geology, OHS, Tourism) to conduct lectures on set days 

During this time we will be looking at the following:
- Indigenous culture and history of the area
- local flora and fauna
- Geology
- Astronomy
- Animal tracking
- Bush tucker
- Bush medicine
